What are the complications?

The infectious complications are associated with certain blood products of human origin used in the treatment of von Willebrand disease. In the past, viral transmission (HIV, hepatitis B and C) was a major complication of therapy for this disease. However, since the introduction of effective viral inactivation procedures at the end of the 1980s, such risk has been reduced enormously.
