The complications of DIC result from the clinical effects of activation of the coagulation system:
- consumption of clotting factors and platelets leads to bleeding (hemorrhagic manifestations),
- activation of coagulation and consumption of physiological inhibitors of coagulation lead to thrombosis (thrombotic manifestations).
